May 2009 Event

Generously hosted by BMO Capital Markets

When our network gathered on the evening of May 20, we raised over $36,000 for the following three projects.

1. Bikes Without Borders

Working with a non-government agency in Malawi, Bikes Without Borders will develop a pilot project to deliver new bikes and biked ambulances for HIV/Aids community care workers. We will help them to purchase more bikes and bike ambulances for their project. Read their proposal to learn more.

2. Education Through Media

Mentored by the communications professionals, the project provides training and practical experience in creative multi-media projects for youth in the 13 Toronto priority neighbourhoods. It gives them a face and voice to express their lives, hopes, and dreams. We will help them buy video recording equipment so that they can produce high quality, web-based programming. Read their proposal to learn more.

3. The Urban Youth Riding Project

Working with the Toronto Police Services, the Aboriginal Peackeeping Unit, the OPP, and the RCMP, The Urban Youth Riding Project reaches youth in some of Toronto's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods and rural youth from the Alderville First Nation. By connecting youth with horses, leadership and social skills are learned, and relations are improved with police in their neighbourhoods. We will make it possible for 12 youths to participate in the program. Read their proposal to learn more.

You do not have to be a member of The Funding Network to attend an event. We welcome you to experience first-hand how we assist small and mid-size charities to help people improve their lot in life. You will get to meet the people who manage the projects, and have the opportunity to ask them directly about their proposals. Those who attend events regularly find them to be exceptional experiences. Admission to the event is free, and there is no obligation to make a charitable donation, however, you must register. If you would like to attend this event, please contact us. Who knows, you may end up making a contribution that changes a life.
